About Joy

Joy McCulloch, Owner, Big Wheel Coaching
USAC Level II Certified Cycling Coach
ACE Personal Trainer
Professional Mountain Biker; Cat 2/Elite Road Racer

I love to teach! For eight years, I worked as a junior high and high school Physical Education Teacher in Redlands, Calif. This position offered me the opportunity to share my passion for health and fitness, while being a great example to my students of how rewarding it can be to live a healthy life. I spent many hours coaching softball, volleyball and basketball teams, helping teenagers reach their goals on and off the court.

In 2010, I took a leap of faith and started Big Wheel Coaching, which I like to call “PE for adults”! I have worked with more than 50 athletes ranging from the novice weekend warrior to the elite/professional racer. One of the most rewarding parts of being a cycling coach is getting to ride with clients! It is so cool to see their progress and improvements in action. We celebrate all levels of achievement, whether it's winning the race or being able to ride to the top of a hill without stopping.

Presently, I am racing on the road for the CashCall Mortgage Cycling Team. I have a great opportunity to compete in the NRC (National Racing Calendar) events across the country with the top female cyclists in the country. This is a challenging undertaking, but each training ride, preparation day, and race is truly enjoyable. I am very blessed to be able to share my journey in fitness with my clients as they embark on their own journey.
