Route

Friday, April 13th, Day 1 of the 2018 Tour de Pink South - We will start in Temple Terrace just outside of Tampa. Its name comes from the Temple Oranges. The metric and century routes proceed south to hotel located on the Bradenton River. We will be spending two nights at the hotel with the Bradenton River as a scenic backdrop providing a more relaxed experience.

The Bradenton area was first settled by the Timucuan Indians, who, according to legend, named the Manatee River area for the gentle sea cows that slowly swim through its inlets. In the early 1600s, the Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto and his crew discovered this seemingly uninhabited area while seeking gold.

Saturday, Day 2 (and the one day option) – We follow a circular route traveling west along the Bradenton River then south along the coast through Anna Marie Island, Long Boat Key, and past the quaint shopping district of St Armands Circle. From there we cross the John Ringling Blvd. The original bridge and causeway was built by Ringling at a cost of $1mm in the 1920’s so he could develop land he owned on Long Boat Key. Entering Sarasota on the way back to Bradenton we pass by the 27 feet tall statue titled “Unconditional Surrender” commemorating the famous photo of “The Kiss” in Times Square at the end of WW II.

Sunday, Day Three – We will be riding through the tropical lushness of Siesta and Casey Keys with many gorgeous properties to see along with great views of the Gulf of Mexico. You will also spend some time on the beautiful Sarasota to Venice Legacy bike trail before arriving at our finale destination on Turtle Beach at Siesta Key.

Ride totals: 204 miles. 1,690 feet elevation
